Snake in brass – Amaru

In Andean cosmology, the serpent, Amaru, is associated with Uku Pacha – the inner and lower world. It is a place of roots, ancestors, dreams and the invisible force that constantly gives new life.

The snake moves close to the earth and sheds its skin. Therefore, it has long been a symbol of change, healing and transformation. It reminds us that development often begins below the surface and that what is let go can make way for something new.

This handmade brass figurine is made in Peru and fits nicely on an altar, a mesa or as a beautiful symbol in the home.

Three worlds in Andean cosmology

Together, the snake (Uku Pacha), the puma (Kay Pacha) and the condor (Hanan Pacha) represent the tripartite worldview that recurs in many Andean traditions. Each figure carries its own symbolism, but together they remind us of the balance between the inner world, life on earth and the larger perspective.
