Shipibo Rattle from Peru (M) – Chakana & Hummingbird

This handmade shamanic rattle comes from the Peruvian Amazon and is made of gourd with chonta wood handles. Each piece is hand-crafted by Shipibo artisans and decorated with hand-engraved motifs, giving each rattle its own unique expression and character.

Rattles have long been used in ceremonies and traditional practices by indigenous peoples around the world. In the living Shipibo tradition, they are used alongside song, music and ceremony, and today they are valued by ceremony-bearers, healers, musicians and other practitioners.

A shamanic rattle is often used to create rhythm, focus and movement in a ceremony, as well as to mark transitions and support ceremonial work. Its characteristic tone also makes it appreciated in meditation, sound work and other forms of personal practice.

Beyond its function, each rattle is a unique Amazonian craft, made with care and respect for a living tradition.
